Considering something new

Stashing away a few meals in the freezer is a very appealing idea to me. I've wanted to try it off and on for quite some time, and am currently in one of those "on again" times.

I don't think I am quite up to the whole Once-a-Month-Cooking right now, though I could see myself trying it in the future too.

For now, I have compiled a few recipes that are advertised to make a lot and freeze well. I am hoping to plan and buy for these new recipes for our regular menu over the next couple of weeks, eating a meal's worth and freezing another one or two meals' worth each day.

My goal is to have a couple of weeks of casseroles and things in the freezer for when baby-days roll around in January.

Do you have any tips for stocking the freezer? Do you regularly double-up when you cook, just for freezing? Have you ever tried Once-a-Month-Cooking? Do tell!

Let me know how you like it! I've thought about it off and on for years myself.

first of all, is that YOUR freezer? because if it is and it's THAT organized, i may just decide to hate you. ;)

second of all, i have done this off and on. i'll have to think on it and pass along recipes. you do know about hillbilly housewife, right?

I considered telling all y'all that WAS my freezer, but then I decided I better 'fess up that it's not. By a long shot!

I use hillbilly housewife fairly often, but haven't checked there for freezer recipes. Thanks!!

I love doing this. I had to have my mom come in and help when I was stocking up. After that intial stocking of the freezer I've tried to double one meal I've cooked each week to stash in the freezer. That way I continue adding to my stash:)

I am new to this idea - and I love it! I recently blogged about a freezer baking day... I made loads of mashed potatoes, 3 baked squash, and prepped apples so they'd be easy to dump in pies to bake!

Life as a Mom has a ton of great recipes and organization tips for cooking like this! I plan on making some casseroles to freeze so I have my own "homemade" tv dinners for those stressful afternoons when I just don't feel like cooking!

Check out my post called "apples potatoes and squash - oh my"
