Come on in - I'll introduce you to the herd!

Hey! It's a party! A great big blog party!

Had this party been In Real Life I would have spent days poring through my cookbooks and magazines to come up with just the right menu.

I love cooking and all, but now that I think about it, I'm glad this was a virtual party, lol.

Not that I wouldn't have served you some nice party food. Because I seriously would have.

And really enjoyed doing it.

It's just all those dishes to wash, ya know?

Anyway... welcome to Buffaloes & Butterfly Wings!

Named that because of the 3 males that live here with me. You can read more specifically about that name
here. Or you may have some males at your house that do rough, tough buffaloish things and then you know exactly what I mean by that.

Here's our herd, starting from the bottom up:
Alan - 16 months. Loves to eat cheese, dance to any kind of music, really loves his bathtime with his big brother, knows how to use a cell-phone and a remote control.

10 weeks ago Alan had a liver transplant.

8 weeks ago we almost had to say goodbye.

God was with us that day, carrying us just like He always has. We never have to worry what the future holds, because no matter how unbearable or uncertain it may seem, He walks ahead of us. He holds us and all our circumstances in the palm of His hand. And most importantly, we have trusted Him with our eternity. He has taught us so much through Alan, and we are so blessed, and so thankful for each day with have with him AND WITH....

Dale - 4 1/2. Dale began pushing toy cars and making motor noises at 6 months and hasn't stopped since! He loves everything with wheels, some of his favorites being Thomas the Train and the characters from Cars. And all the NASCAR folks too. :)

Not only is he a fan of wheels, he is also:
clever
funny
smart

Dale also:
talks all the time
loves chatting w/family on instant messenger

We are easing into homeschooling with a little preschool stuff here and there and will begin kindergarten in the fall.

Daddy Buffalo - Who I normally refer to as "Greg" but "Daddy Buffalo" is so fun to see in writing that I may just have to start calling him that all the time. At least here at the blog. :)

I won't embarrass him by going on and on about his good qualities. But he's mine, and I love 'im. :)

And he is very musical and a great daddy and cracks.me.up.

And I'll quit there. Because I said I would. :)

And then there's me. The dainty (ha!) butterfly cleaning up the mess of it all.

Feeding the buffaloes, washing their clothes, scrubbing their tub...

and loving (almost) every minute of it.

I really really really intended for my party post to be short. Oops.

So if you are still reading, I thank you. Can I squeeze in just a coupla more things about me?

I like to:
cook
read
blog

I'm learning to:
scrapbook
homeschool
do stuff in Photoshop

Someday I want to:
knit and/or crochet and/or make a quilt
sew
learn html-ish type stuff so I can design my own blogs, etc

So if you are STILL reading (and I really, really thank you) I'm giving something away!

A butterfly would have been really cool, but I have dragonflies. So you get a choice! Of the sparkly blue-green one or the also sparkly rosy one.

Please leave a comment and tell everyone:
- Does your house have more buffaloes or butterflies?
- What are you currently learning or what is on your wish-list of things you want to do?
- Which dragonfly is your favorite?

On Saturday, March 14 the Baby Buffaloes will help me randomly choose a commenter. Please be sure and leave an email or a blog address.... any way for me to get in touch with you if you are the big winner. :)

Thanks again for stopping by... and for sticking with me all the way to the end of this very loooooong post. I hope you will come again!

And now I'm going to spend the next week Blog Partying with everyone at 5 Minutes for Mom! :)

I guess you're having problems getting to 5 minutes for mom to link up too huh? Frustrating. Our computer has a virus, so I called my husband at work, LOL and was going to have him link me.

I could tell he was slightly annoyed that I was doing that. I hardly ever call him for stuff like this, but this *is* important you know?! ;-)

But alas, it wasn't my computer, but it is their site. (sigh)

I enjoyed your party post. At least I get to be the first to comment huh?

I am glad that you enjoy cooking. You know what's funny? I would rather clean up than cook! I guess because it doesn't require me to think much about the task and I can day dream while I do dishes. It unwinds me for some reason.

Cooking stresses me out. Now I do love to bake, which I hardly ever do, because it makes me fat. But I do like to bake.

Let's see, what am I currently learning. Hmmmm... I am trying to learn to relax, and enjoy life. I tend to be a perfectionast. I want to be carefree like I was when I was a little girl. So I am trying to learn to do this more.

What I would like to do? Well, Shonda Parker has an herbal course that costs lots. I would like to do that, that way I could be more confident in my knowledge of herbal medicine.

We have more butterfiles than buffallos. three butterfiles. Plus a female bird and a female cat, lol!

It is funny that your Dale likes to chatter. My Bean is like this. I just thought it was girls that like to chatter. She drives me crazy sometimes, but in a good way, lol! ;-)

We have WAAAAAY more butterflies than buffalos--4 butterflies and Daddy Buffaloe! (You are right, that IS funny to type.) We are more like the Wolf and Princess family though!

I am learning how to use my sewing machine. Mom gave it to me 2 years ago for Christmas, and it took me all the way until October to learn how to use it. I have made curtains for my room, mitten thingys for the girls, altered a dress for Rachel, and hemmed some pants for Lauren. I just want to be able to use it enough to make the little things we need!

I am also learning how to NOT freak out when the house it messy. I keep telling myself that when the girls grow up, they will NOT say "Gee, I wish the house had been cleaner." They will say "Remember when we played dress-up with Mommy and had a tea party? Remember when we played play dough with Mommy and Daddy? Remember when we all sang karaoke in the living room with mommy and daddy?" Sometimes playtime IS more important than having the laundry put away!

My wish list? A little more time in the day to scrapbook. I really do love to do it, but I am a messy scrapbooker. I spread it AAAAAAAAALLLLLLL out on the living room floor. As you can imagine, I cannot do that when Emilee is awake!! The last time I did, she , uh, 'borrowed' and entire page of stickers and stuck them all over herself! Cute, but not exactly what I meant for those stickers to be used for!

I really like the sparkly blue dragonfly! It is gorgeous.

I like this party! You should do it more... :-)

Great intro, Amy! I'm not doing the blog party but I think I'll come here and enjoy it through you. :)

We have four butterflies (3 daughters & little ol' me) and then Prince Charming. I don't think I can refer to him as a buffalo, he's far too artistic, thoughtful, and patient. However, if we someday have a bunch of boys (not likely) there's no telling what craziness will come out.

Hello! I'm not sure how I stumbled on you blog, but I like it. We moms have to keep encouraging each other, and blogging is a great way to do it!

I have 3 buffaloes! Actually, I call them pickleheads - DS#1 is almost 15...teenager, 'nuff said. DS#2 is 9 and still likes to giggle & snuggle. Then theres my sweet DH - the biggest buffalo on the house. He's the king of our herd. *G*

I LOVE to quilt, sew & craft. And I collect dragonflies! I think they are both lovely...but especially like the blue.

Keep on bloggin'! God Bless you & your family.

Amy-

Thanks for stopping by my blog today! Jennisa was so great to work w/ and I absolutley LOVE, LOVE, LOVE what she has done w/ your blog! She is so talented.

To answer your questions, I am currently learning to sew (you can see my first project at http://byhisgrace-amy.blogspot.com/2008/01/maybe-you-could-call-me-martha.html

I guess you could say I have 2 buffaloes in my house (a daddy and a 2 1/2 year old!) So fun!

I wish I had more time to learn about Photoshop! I really want a new camera to take cool pictures and then be able to "enhance" w/ all the cool tools of photoshop. Someday...

I'll be checking back again really soon!

thanks for stopping by! You have a couple of handsome boys there, what a blessing!!

We are all about the butterflies here - the buffalo daddy (tee hee - that IS fun!!) is all alone here ... buffalo brothers (that was fun too) are grown and gone, so it's just him and us ladies. Although my 4 yr old is a wannabe buffalo!!!
Your blog is sweet ... I'll Be Back.
Thanks for stoppin by to see me by the way!

What a sweet looking herd you have! I am the lonely butterfly in our house of five!

Hope you're enjoying the party and swing by my place should you have the chance!

Well, my house is mostly buffalos... one less since Bigger Brother grew up and is all adult now... hmph!! LOL, I have one butterfly, besides me. She is 15. Big Brother is 9 and Little Brother is 7 - and then, of course, Daddy D. I don't know that I would have it any other way... did you know that butterflies turn into hornets around 13??? It doesn't last forever... and I am glad to have my butterfly back (mostly). :D

Thanks for stopping by!! Hope to see you again soon (especially on Wed & Thurs for American Idol chat!)

We have 2 buffalos and 2 butterflies in our house.

I really enjoy digital scrapbooking. Paper scrapping is a pain, because it's a mess that has to be picked up at every meal time and it take me up to 3 -4 days to create one page.

I really want to learn more html, so I can design my own websites instead of having to bug my busy husband.

I like both dragonflies. :~)

Well I have 3 buffaloes which makes me the only butterfly. Sometimes it's good to be the queen. :)
We have the same interests as far things we'd like to learn like sewing/knitting/crocheting. I'm kind of a see and do learner and not very well at teaching myself.
I'm really glad I stopped by and plan to come back. Us momma butterflies of buffaloes gotta stick together.

I'm amused by the "Daddy Buffalo" comments. My dad's parents used to live in Buffalo, NY, and as a kid, I called them, "Grandma and Grandpa Buffalo." That's what you made me think of. :)

We have more butterflies in my house - my husband is the only buffalo. :)

I like the little dragonfly. Thanks for having me over for a party!

Really nice to meet you via the Ultimate Blog Party.

What a sweet introduction. Praise the Lord your son is still here for you to enjoy and cherish.

I'll be back again to read more of your blog.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! We have more butterflies than buffaloes here! I'm not a super girly girl, but my 17 month old daughter already knows how to put on bracelets and necklaces, and will show them off.

What would I like to learn? I would like to learn how to sew. My mom would teach me, but she's kind of a haphazard seamstress, and I'd like to learn a more professional way of sewing.

Have a great blog party!

Let's see.....

Our family is the exact same as yours---I'm the lone butterfly and have two little buffaloes and a daddy buffalo. At first I was intimidated by that, but I actually love it now!

I want to learn to sew. I even bought a machine (6 years ago!!!) and haven't used it 5.5 years. Sad, huh??

I like the blue dragonfly---matches my purse :-)!!

If you get a chance, head on over to my blog---I'm having a giveaway, too.

Hi Amy, it's nice to "meet" you. I am a homeschooling mom too. Our home has an equal number of buffalos and butterflies. I would love a chance to win either pin. Stop by my party if you have a chance!

Thanks for your comment on my blog! We are definitely heavy on the butterflies at our house. We have three daughters and the only buffalo is Daddy!

Your braided bread looks so yummy. I might have to make some bread this week!

Hey there, thanks for stopping by Life from my Laptop. I came to your blog a few weeks ago while blog hopping and loved your title and design. That is wonderful about the miracle you and your family experienced with your little one. My baby girl is 12 months on March 16, but I'm expecting #3 on July 14.

Hi Amy! First off thanks for stopping by my party. I always love meeting momma's of all boys. As you already know I have three buffaloes. I didn't share this in my party post but even our dog is a boy...lol!

It is funny that you ask what I am learning right now. My husband and I just started attending a new church with the boys. This has been a huge growing time for me. You will have to come back and read a little about it on my blog, if you have time. GOD is GOOD!!!

I am looking forward to getting to know a bit about you and your family. What an inspiring story you seem to have and a miracle little boy!

Now that I seem to have typed up the longest comment I have ever left...lol!! I love the top left dragon fly. :o) Enjoy the rest of the party week!!!

Your kids are just precious. We have more butterflies here than buffaloes, unless you count the little dog and then its even.

I am new to this blogging thing, but would love to learn more about the design aspect of it. I also am in the process of learning more about my new camera, because I love taking pictures and scrapbooking.

I know this is a long comment, but I have to say that I like the shiny rose dragonfly. It reminds me of my mother-in-law who loves butterflies, but one time made the mistake of thinking a dragonfly was a mosquito. :)

I don't know much about blogging, so I guess that's what i'd like to learn more about. Started reading your blog when Alan was in the hospital. We have 2 buffaloes: 1 almost 11 year old, soccer playing buffalo and 1 science loving Daddy Buffalo. We also currently have 4 Butterflies: mommy butterfly (me), teenage exchange student butterfly and twin 3 year old butterflies!
I'm also looking in to learning about how to become a speech therapist...not sure i'm ready for that much time back in school!~

Butterflies with Buffalo Wings?

Ha! Thanks for your post! Very cute.

Well it depends on whether or not I count the dogs - If I count them we have three buffaloes and three butterflies if I don't though there is me and one beautiful little butterfly and a Daddy Buffalo (I like typing that!)

Just party hopping on through the blogosphere - I wish I could visit every party but I can't so I'm clicking on all the ones whose linked # is a 7 (don't know why I picked that, I just did) and I'm finding some great blogs -

Glad to hear that your little one is still with you!

Our house has 4 butterflies and 2 buffalos. Dh is glad he has another male in the house now even if the male doesn't really talk yet.

I like the brown dragonfly best.

I'm learning to sew. I've made several quilts, blankets and other things. I really want to learn to crochet. I'd love to make little stuffed toys for the kids.

Great post! Hope your enjoying the party! I’ve been meeting tons of new people! Hope to try to visit at least half of them before Friday! You never know when you may meet a forever friend. Pop by for a visit if you get a chance! Enjoy your day!

Hi - would love to be in your giveaway. We have 2 butterflies (Myself and Naomi (14 mths - aka 'Blossom'), and just 1 buffalo.

What am I learning? Patience. It has never been a strong point of mine, and since starting to do Family Daycare from our house, I am quickly learning to count to 3 before reacting to any given situation!

I like the rose coloured dragonfly the best.

Cheers, Sasha

Great blog title! I love it- so fitting for you Texans. We did a short stint in Dallas a few years back I loved it. We are pretty balanced at our house: 1 butterfly turning 9 next month and my buffalo is 6. Such good ages! But I refer to them as thing 1 and 2 becasue it suits them better! I'm new to blogging (so I guess that counts as what I am learning, I'm so computer challenged!) It looks like I missed out on the blog party, but I'm looking forward to meeting new blog friends! Thanks for posting!

Amy,
I so wish we could have become better friends in college. I have read every single caring bridge update from the beginning and never saw you had a blog. I feel so connected to your little fam and want you to know I am out there too scrubbing after my two buffalos and my little butterfly(she's not so dainty yet..she can roar louder than the rest of the herd) I never was a butterfly. I always wanted to be but my daughter makes me smile and her spunk makes the lack of meekness the two of us have laughable. I look forward to reading through your blog and when I am ready for the world to see, releasing mine. I hope this can be a means for a friendship that seems should have formed possible. Thanks for all your encouragement you dont know you give.

Hi Amy,
I have mostly buffaloes at my house; however, mine are all animals--2 geldings and two cats. I have two butterflies--a female cat and myself. The traits seem to be the same in animals! I love all of them--it is so much fun to see them interacting.
