Be a Hero!

*This is a 'sticky' post: it will remain at the top of the page throughout the month of April. Scroll down to see new posts.* April is National Donate Life Month.

Our youngest son is living a happy, healthy life with a wonderful future ahead of him, thanks to the ultimate generosity of a family that lost their own little one.

They are heroes to us.
Please consider organ donation. A donor gives so much more than an organ, they give a life.

To see more stories of kids who are affected by organ donation, please check the comments section. Be sure to leave a comment if someone you love has been given a gift of life, is waiting, or has donated.

What a great idea, Amy!

Anthony was three months old when he received his gift of life. We pursued the living donor route because Anthony needed a liver so quickly that his transplant team feared he might not get a donor liver in time. After 28 days on the waiting list, Anthony received the left lateral lobe of his daddy's liver. It's been four years since that surgery, and Anthony is a normal, healthy four-year old boy who loves jumping in puddles, snuggling with Mommy and Daddy, playing outside, and playing "Go, Diego, Go" on the Wii.

I came across your blog on Liver Families. My son, Nathan received his liver transplant on December 26, 2007. It was an amazing Christmas gift. He is doing so well now. He can keep up with his brothers. He can play for hours as a time without ever getting tired. The transplant has changed his life. He is so very happy and full of life. We are so thankful for his donor and donor family.

My son was born with Biliary Atresia and was transplanted at 8 months of age. 5 1/2 years later, we are running to keep up with him, watching him play T ball, swimming at the beach, and just enjoying every moment! We thank God for those selfless enough to choose to donate.

You can read his story on his link

Hi Amy,
Sorry it took so long, I am just getting back on my feet after having flu.

Bethany was born in March 2003 with PFIC2 - Progressive Familial Intrahepatic Cholestasis, type 2. Currently she still has her own liver but we know she will need a transplant in the near future, certainly before she gets to her teens but likely much sooner. She is an inspiration, a courageous bubbly little girl who gives away none of her painful treatment or the limits the disease set on her life in her everyday beautiful smiles.

Bethany has a caringbridge site... http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/bethanysalmon

I have a family blog... http://fairenuff-familypficblog.blogspot.com/

and Bethany has her own webiste which she built with her Daddy when she felt too ill to play... http://www.bethany.webeden.co.uk/

Helena was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia at 5 weeks old. She received a liver transplant at 8 and 1/2 months old. We are only 2 months away from her one year transplant anniversary. Helena is a strong and sweet little girl with a mind of her own. She is a true joy to be around!! I am so grateful to all donors and their families. It is because of them our precious children are here with us today. Thank you!!

Savannah is 14 months old and here today because of our donor angel. She received a liver transplant 3 months ago. The parents of our donor angel saved my babies life.
