Weekly Wrap-up

Our week, in review:

Sunday - Much like waking up in the wee hours of the night to the sound of someone, somewhere in your home up-chucking, we woke up Sunday morning to find our computer ill.  As in, it had a virus.  A virus that wanted our credit card number and wouldn't let us do much else.

We were determined not to let such a distraction be a.... well... a distraction from worshiping.  It would have to be dealt with later.

Monday - Big day!  Daddy Buffalo started summer band, yet again.  But at a new school!  Yay!  We are very excited about this.

Also on Monday, those of us left at home began easing ourselves into our school routine.  This is the first time in years (if ever) that we are going to be able to have a consistent schedule, and I am very much looking forward to it.  Day 1 consisted of our getting up, fed, and dressed, followed by house-keeping type things, and one hour of schoolish things.  We aren't beginning any of our 'real' school stuff yet.  I'm calling it "Summer School" because I can, and my boys have no preconceived notions of what that ought to mean.  It's summer, we're doing school stuff, that makes it Summer School.  Our new school year starts in 10 days.

So, after having absolutely no structure whatsoever for over 3 months, Monday was a bit of a battle.  The goal was the schedule.  Not the 'school work' I had planned.  But we got it all done and made it through!

Tuesday through Friday went muuuuuch better as far as all things schedule were concerned.  I was really expecting the adjustment period to take longer, but the boys seemed to have jumped right in to scheduled life.  I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop.

And even though Summer School has been mainly to get us in a routine and to practice time management and all that good stuff, we have accomplished academics too!

Among other things: Alan finished his alphabet book, the boys sent out two letters each, and Dale started his new piano books!  Since they are mostly review for him at this point, we are hitting them hard for our two weeks of Summer School to get a jumpstart.  We'll back them down to once or twice a week after school starts.

As for the computer.... after some research, consultation, and other attempts, we were unable to eradicate the virus and decided the best course of action was to wipe the whole thing clean and start again.

Thankfully, we had all of our pictures, documents and the like backed up on an external hard drive.  So, in went the recovery disk, and off went my computer as I knew it, along with the stinkin' old bug.  While I am extremely grateful to have things up and running again (and for free!), the computer isn't back to it's old self yet, and just isn't as much fun.  Worst of all, it looks like the file I had saved all my "Favorites" in has gone missing, so my lists and lists of links to school stuff and recipes are gone.  I felt a little ill myself when I discovered that.  The biggest consolation to me is that it IS the internet.  If there was something I could think of, in theory anyway, I ought to be able to find it again.... right?  Oh but anyway.... I don't want to be whiny... I really am glad to have everything else saved!  It's all perspective, right?  I'll live. ;)

In the meantime, I learned some valuable lessons this week on living with less computer time, and how that really (really) helps us when it comes to all that routine and scheduling business.  ;)

I really think kids thrive on routines and schedules, I'm not surprised your children took right to the schedule.

That IS a bummer about your computer. It's always a blessing when things like that happen and you have your pictures and things backed up.

Glad you were able to salvage what was necessary despite the computer problems. Sounds like a good week other than that!

You left out your early mornings. ;)

Oh my goodness, Kristin! You are so right! How could I have forgotten....
Before getting started on my homemaking, homeschooling duties every day, I've been getting up and riding my bike for 2-4 miles. In very good company, too! :)

Ack on the computer virus! We got one awhile back on our desktop that required wiping everything out. Like you said, it's just not quite the same after that.

Yay on having that first week under your belt. Hope next week is smooth sailing.

Sorry about the yucky computer virus-y thing. (Don't you love how technical I am?)

Glad you're back blogging, though!

Our school week was more about academics and less about schedule, sadly, because of constant sleep interruptions. I can't imagine that is going to improve once the baby comes, but here's hoping. :)
