Maybe skin deep isn't always a bad thing.

I never was a big fan of Oprah, but I did see a handful of shows through the years.  A few minutes from one of those shows I will never forget, probably because I have replayed it in my mind over and over again.

The theme of the show was women who looked and acted younger than their age.  In a good way.  The guests were mostly in their 60's-80's, and looked like they were in their 30's-50's.

Oprah would bring out a guest, introduce them, and, after visiting for a few moments, reveal the guest's true age.
At which point, the entire audience was amazed and astounded and the guest would share a few bits of wisdom about how to best live your life.

Of course, each guest looked more amazing than the last.  Finally, one attractive, well-spoken lady came out.  After the age reveal Oprah picked her jaw up off the floor and asked how the woman did it.

By the way the question was worded and the nature of the show, every one was expecting some deep, inspirational answer.

Not so.

"Moisturizer," the lady answered.  "I have faithfully applied moisturizer to my skin every morning and every night for decades."

Oprah went fishing for more.  Something more mystic or difficult.  "No," the lady smiled, "just moisturizer."

So YES - drink your water.  YES - live clean.  YES - don't tan yourself silly.  But hey... don't forget the moisturizer! :)

  1. Haha, I didn't see this, but I remember it all the time as if I did, bc you told me about it! I am pretty faithful with my moisturizer. I believe!

  2. FWIW started using Oil of Olay back when I was a teenager and it was just one cream, not a whole line of products. It was a square ad in the middle of a page near the back of the magazine (Good Housekeeping for one) about 3x4" in black and white. Don't know when that changed, but you young things reading this blog won't remember it. I am about to give my age away, but you who know me know that anyway, haha.

  3. HaHa! I love that! I have a 96 year old friend that I have become quite close to in the past couple of years. She does not look a day over 70. She is beautiful! She tells me her key to youth is exercise. She still does sit ups! She is an amazing woman. I agree about moisturizer too! Plus, stay out of the sun.
